| First Annual Indie Business Conference |
[Feb. 11th, 2006|09:56 am] |
As many of you know, in addition to my own
independent jewelry design company, I am also a co-founder of
CraftRevolution.com and the Independent Design and Craft Association.
We are currently in the process of preparing for our First Annual
Independent Design Show and Conference, which will be held on Saturday
and Sunday, May 6th and 7th at the Market Square in Knoxville,
Tennessee.
After reviewing possible topics with our advisory panel of indie
business owners, we've settled on the following outline for the
conference to be held on Sunday, May 7th (the day after the sale at
Market Square) in Knoxville, TN.
The topics are as follows:
Basics of Branding
Introduction to what a brand is, what it does for your bottom line
How to build your own brand (including website design)
Intellectual Property and the Indie
Basics of IP law, how it pertains to indies.
Discussion of us against the big boys (protecting ourselves)
Discussion of IP within the community (infringing upon others and how to avoid it)
Mainstream Marketing
How the indie community can reach the mainstream market
First off- a look at the current retail environment (indies vs. big-box otherwise known as David vs. Goliath)
What advantages do small companies have? (ability to change to market demands quickly, etc.)
Implementing these strategies in your own business
Implementing group strategies (co-op advertising, etc.)
If time allows, the following topics will also be addressed:
Business Basics
Basic bookkeeping and finances
Ways to get help- independent contractors/employees/interns, pros/cons of each
Writing for business
Time-management for small businesses

Michelle Bell, Editor-in-Chief of Papierdoll.net, said:
"Adorneya
by Georgia Hadley has absolutely beautiful earrings for sale. Christmas
is behind us, but the gift giving does not have to stop. Another reason
you can get these earrings is simply to spoil yourself.
These
intricately designed pieces will last a lifetime. I purchased a set
just to see if $27 jewelry could really last. It can and it does."

of fun questions about myself, and you all get to know me quite a bit
better! Here goes...
--Georgia
10 years ago today: August 25, 1995
Hmmm...
I was about to begin my junior year of high school, and madly in love
with my boyfriend of 6 months, who is now my husband. (I'm still madly
in love!)
5 years ago today: August 25, 2000
I had just become engaged and was working full-time at a mental health facility.
1 year ago today: August 25, 2004
I had just left my wonderful job of 6 years to become a stay-at-home mommy and officially launch Adorneya!!!
yesterday: August 24, 2005
My
youngest son and I went grocery shopping while my oldest was spending
the day with his Omi (grandmother). Then, when my husband got home, we
went to his mother's house to have dinner with the family including his
brother who is visiting from California.
tomorrow: August 26, 2005
I plan to spend the morning reviewing new Indie Friendly site submissions for Craft Revolution. Of course, with two little boys, who knows?

Rice cakes with almond butter, basically any kind of nuts, fresh fruit, dried fruit, cheese.
5 bands that I know most of their lyrics

5 things I'd do with a million $$
build
my dreamhouse, buy lots of jewelry-making supplies, get a new car, put
aside college funds for my two boys, put the rest in savings for early
retirement!
5 places I'd run away to
Scotland, Northern Pacific Coast, Vermont's Northeast Kingdom (further north in VT than I am now), Montana, Northern California
5 bad habits I have
Staying
up late, drinking coffee (only a cup a day, but still), telling my
husband what to do, procrastinating, eating chocolate!
5 things I like doing
Spending time with my family, learning, reading, watching movies, eating chocolate!
5 things I wouldn't wear
Bikinis, mini-skirts, leather (unless it's shoes), ruffles, spike heels.
5 TV shows I love
Nova, Now, Frontline, POV, Sesame Street (Have you noticed? I'm a big PBS supporter!)

| Peridot- August's Birthstone |
[Aug. 8th, 2005|09:29 pm] |
|
Peridot is the gem variation of Olivine.
Throughout the years, peridot has been confused with other gemstones
including emerald, green garnet and apatite. Peridot, however, is the
only gemstone with its characteristic yellowish-green color.
A large amount of the peridot on the market today actually is mined in Arizona, although the highest quality peridot is said to be found in Egypt and Myanmar.
Peridot is believed by many to bring abundance, physical health and emotional well-being to its wearer. |
